On 2011 November 26th-28th we had another great time getting together. Our most caring and loving sister Alice from Telok Intan finally decided to meet up in Kuala Lumpur for 3 days 2 nights. She had choosen The Gardens Hotel to be our meeting place. This Hotel is linked to a shopping "Heaven" with so much to do. It is a very convenient place to stay with everything you need in one spot. We throughly enjoyed ourselves, and I am so proud of the many random acts of kindness being express among each other. Now I am looking forward to M O R E Fun & Joy. Big THANK to Alice, Suzanne, Bryan and Jamie for all the good job. Thank You!

I love the spirit of baking cookies for Chinese New Year, hence I will bake cookies during dedicated festivals or only during Chinese New Year. Pamper the family or entertain our guest with selected home made cookies is a true labour of love. I have few simple cookies to share with you. It is easy and you should have no problem putting things together to impress your family and friends. Simple cookies can be quality cookies bake from home. You can try. Have fun and good luck!!

Pineapple Tart (Nastar)

Ingredients: 360gm flour / 20gm milk powder (sieved) keep aside. 200gm butter / 50gm shortening / 50gm icing sugar cream in a mixer lightly, add in 1 egg yoke till smooth, fold in sieved flour and mix well. Use a piping nozzle to pipe out into strip, wrap in pineapple jam then roll it up. Arrange on lined or greased tray and glaze surfaces. Bake in preheated oven at 180 C

until lightly brown. Cool well before storage.

Butter Cookies
(A) 226gm butter / 140gm icing sugar (B) 1 egg yoke (C) 300gm flour. For decoration: chocolate chips. - Method: Beat ingredient A in a mixer. Add in B and mix well. Fold in C and stir well to form a soft dough. Fit a piping bag with a nozzle. Spoon mixture into bag and pipe cookies on lined baking tray. Place a piece of chocolate chips on top. Bake cookies in preheated oven at 170C for 15-20 minutes. Remove and cool well.

Cashew Nut Cookies

[Ingredients] (A) 225gm butter/200gm castor sugar/pitch of salt. (B) 1 egg. (C) 320gm flour/60gm corn flour/1 tsp baking powder (shieved) 80gm ground cashew nut. Some cashew nuts for topping.~~ Method: Combine A in a mixer and blend briefly. Add in B and mix well. Fold in C to form a soft dough. Put dough between sheets of plastic, roll out flat. Use cookie cutter and cut out cookies. Arrange cookies on lined baking tray. Glaze surface and lightly press decoration over the top. Bake in preheated oven at 180 C until lightly browned. Remove and cool well.

Almond Cookies

[Ingredients] 300gm flour/ 100gm almond nibs(toasted)/ 1/2 tsp baking powder/ 1/2 tsp baking soda/ 100gm almond powder/ 100gm icing sugar/ pitch of salt/ 200ml oil. Decoration: Almond flakes ~~ Method: Combine all ingredients to form a soft dough. Put dough between sheets of plastic roll out flat. Use cookie cutter to stamp out shape required. Arrange cookies in lined baking tray and glaze surface. Press almond flakes in the centre of each cookies. Bake in a preheated oven for 15-20 minutes. Removrd and cool well.

Almond Flakes Thins

Ingredients: 120gm baked almond flakes and adequate FLORENTINER

Mehtod: Place a very thin layer of baked almond flakes on lined baking tray, sprinkle a smooth layer of Florentiner( basic mixture for bienestich and florentiner) on roasted almond. Bake in preheated at 160 C for 10-15 minutes. Remove and cut ot size immediately.

Indonesia has banned its citizen from working in Malyasia as maids due to horrific reports of beatings and ill treating. Today, Cambodia has also imposed a temporary ban on sending domestic worker to Malaysia due to the numerous complaints of abuse.

It is not easy to hire a good maid, but feel that all the new maids who come to work with their employer during the first to the third month can never fulfil the requirements of the employer. Therefore during this period, the employer has to be patience with them. Do not shout or punish them, by doing this they may be "FEAR" and will not give you a good job.

I have maids for many years, I dedinitely think that they should be treated well. They are human too. I would encourage anyone with a maid to treat and respect them, view them as "part of the family". As long as they doing their job properly, we should not treat them badly. (Now I am having two house hold keeper in my house and they are happy working with me.)

I am in my 60's now and I have crossed several milestones, but life keep looking for more challenges. When I was young I thought 60 was so old, but now I realize it is not what I thought. I would like to say to all my love ones and anyone in their 20's or 30's. - Try to do what you want to do while you still got the energy, make the most of your youth, but don't above other in the process. You have so much ahead of you, so much to learn about life, people and the way the world functions. Always treat others the way you like to be treated. Try your best at everything and don't be disappointed when things does't work out.

As for me today, although I am not a "Lady of Fame" or a world traveller, but I believe my life so far has been meaningful and exciting. I know who I truely am. I have also learned who are my true friends and who are the one closes to me. Something I cannot denial in my life.....there have been moments which made me cry and moments which made me laugh, but I look forward with no regrets. Today I will enjoy the bliss of stay and the fruit of my labour.

I am thankful for all the moments I get with my family, (my wonderful children, my daughter & son in-law, my grandchildren and all my loving and caring brothers and sisters). You all are the one who make me a better person.

We miss him too. Regarding Isabelle she is with me since birth. She will be 2 yrs old on Sat 9th. She is a very mischevous little girl full of "ENERGY", unless she is eatting or sleeping. Now she understands every words we say. You will be suprised to hear some words which you never expected her knowing. She is her papa's little darling - he is amazingly patient and affectionate with her. Even though he's tired after work, he tries to spend time talking to and playing with her............!!

Losing A loved One

On 20th May 2011, we lost our sister-in-law Lucy to cancer. She was only 49. Over the years, I had friends and relatives who have been diagnosed with the disease, but she was the only one who succumbed to it at a relatively young age. Lucy was the youngest in-law in our family. She stayed with our parent in Cameron Highlands when they were alive. She was a kind, joyful and helpful person who just don't know how to say NO.......!! Except to Cancer.

After she was diagnosed with it, she went through all necessary operations to fight it off. Unfortunately her cancer cells was too "Fierce". She left us even the most expensive and up to date drugs for cancer could not save her life.

Getting together is something that all of us look forward to. We rerely get a chance to sit down and enjoy the fun with our brothers and sisters. Last week our loving and caring sister Alice invited us to Telok Intan for a luncheon organized by her company. Our two brothers were not invited as we knew that they had some thing on.

To arrange a get together is an exciting and also one which involves alot of hard work. It can be very demanding and taxing job. We started with some arguement (disagreement) before the meeting. Things were solved very quickly with no prejudice. Everyone of us enjoyed the fun and memorable gathering. THANKS to our caring sister Alice........!! Now thinking of 828 to go or not to go???

An Unforgetable Experience

It was 18th last month my sister and I joined a 5 days 4 nights tour to Hanoi / Halong in Vietnam. On arrival we were transfer to the hotel in Hanoi and we stayed there for a night. The next morning, after breadfast we had a four hour journey (by coach) to Halong for two nights. On the second night in Halong I was awaken by......... I heard some noise in the room. When I opened my eyes the TV was on. I thought it was my sister who switched on the TV, but she was sound asleep when I looked at her. Without hesitation I switched off the TV. I was so pissed that I can't sleep because of that, trying to figure out why things happened.

After half an hour or so, something weired happened again I could hear some noise, within second the lights in our room switched off and on for many times. I quickly jumped over to my sister's bed and told her that I wanted to sleep with her. When she started to talk to me all the lights went off, things happened very fast, again the lights as well as the TV were switched on again.
I asked my sister softly weather I should switch off the TV. She told me "OFF IT LA" I tried many times to off it but I can't. I was so nervous at that moment, luckly my sister was brave. She tried to talk loudly to me by making noise and the TV was switched off finally.

I don't expect everyone to believe.........Because I know this is very impossible. I am just wondering does anyone know something like this, OR do you believe ghost exist? Due to this weired happening, I think this was one of my most unjoyable trip that I had............!!

Family To Me!!

Nowadays, finding time together with family is difficult. So.. time with the family can be together is rare. I strongly think that FAMILY is important to everyone in the world. It is about who you care about and is not whose blood you are. Family love is the strongest type because it is unconditional. This unconditional love means that no matter what happens, the family will still love you.

I am at my 60's now, which I have no reason to say I am busy. I guess I would say it is important for all the family members to meet and talk to one another. I also think that it can be a good idea to plan for a family schedule, so that the whole family can plan for a round table chat once every three monthly or half yearly(mainly to my brothers and sisters.)

Time together with family is very important. Money can't buy back lost time. As each day passes, it is lost and we can never get it back. I hope my two sisters staying nearby agree with me and we can visit each other more often. We can be very healthy today, but we cannot foretell our future...............!! I strongly support my son Dr Soong for taking 18 months leave to join the family in Paris. Congratulations!! I hope you have a fantastic life with the family. (one piece of advice: Never end up the day angry with each other.)

Time flies, and there is nothing I can do that can turn back time. So, while I can and while I still have the time I will do the best to my children, family members and friends. There are just ways, too many things in life that money can't buy.

My two grandkids Isabelle and Julian will be twenty months soon. During these days much memory has been 'store' in my mind. I can't help but to share this with you. I would say it is certainly a blessing to have grandkids in the house.
The time I have shared with my grandkids are the greatest 'investment'.......!! Today nothing brings a smile to my face more than seeing my grandkids run to me with a hug when I come home. Nowadays whenever I am angry with little Isabelle, she will do the sweet thing like give me a cuddle or say "I am sorry popo", it just makes my heart melt. The bonding time with grandkids is priceless. (Babies bring innocence and joy in my lives.) Well I should say I am now looking forward for Chinese New Year. Will tell you why??

This is Kristabell the latest addition to the 'Chong' family and is also our forth grandchild. She was born on 29th April 2011@ 3.07kgs. When I visit her at Sunway Medical Hospital, the first impression I had was........ she looks like her jie jie Isabelle just that she has thicker and very black hair. Colourful jellies are simply irresistible to those born with a sweet tooth and especially so for young children. Making jelly requires patience and lots of thought must be put into it. If you prepare it with a happy mood, you will enjoy the delightful process. I shall try to prepare more creative jellies in the future, because it is an ideal choice when it comes to gifting, especially so for birthdays.

Wow! is Isabelle and Julian again. Isabelle turned one on 9th October and Julian will be one on 21st October. I am not a perfect popo or nainai, but I love having fun and time with my family members. As time was restricted for this special occasion, we finally decided to have a lunch celebration in Restoran Oversea with our family together with Joanne's parents on 10th October. My 60th Birthday was over last week, which I was not prepared for any celebration. To me, a birthday is just the first day of another 365 days journey around the sun. You will enjoy the 'TRIP' if you 'organize' yourself.

If you know me, you will know that I am a simple lady, not demanding, no fancy with sophisticated food............ My two daughters knowing my 'style', they organized a steam-boat cum BBQ dinner at our Bukit Jalil house on 4th Sept. Everything was well planned. Thanks to Carol and Evelyn for the arrangements and the endless love that is still surrounding me and keeping me safe.

Suprised!! Suprised......!! On 5th morning, when I was busy with my daily job routine in my room, someone called nainai. I was shocked when I saw Joanne and my two grandkids. I never expected to see them at this time as I was told by YL that he was coming back from Tokyo on 12th. Everything was arranged much earlier without my knowledge. I felt proud and happy, their irreplaceable heartiness, love and understanding are the sources of my strength. Thanks to Uncle Soong, My 3 wonderful children, Joanne, Peter together with my 3 grandchildren for joining me on this special day. It was truely a Suprised Joy to have all of you surrounded me.

When I say 828, the 'YONG' knows what it means. In conjunction with the celebration on this day, Taijie and I took the opportunity to meet our brother and sister who was not able to join us in Telok Intan. After three delightful days with the birthday girl, we spend a night in Cameron Highlands. From there, with the Simpang Pulai way, we went to Ipoh for another night. During these days I manage to catch some shots I like. I decided to post more pictures, as it tells a thousand words.

It was lunch hour when we reached T. Intan on 27th. With no hesitation we went for our 1st best of the best "Steam Fresh Fishead." Uncle Tan was there, to make sure we get a place to be seated. A VIP welcome for three of us. Thanks to Alice & Tan.

The YONG sisters and brothers arranged to meet in Telok Intan on 828 on the occasion of our most caring sister Alice's birthday. Tai Jie, Irene and myself arranged to meet a day earlier so that we could have sufficient time to do some shopping around. I presume the birthday girl had been busy planning and organising the 'party' for weeks to ensure that this was a night that all of us would always remember. The hard work resulted in a hilarious and fun-filled night of shared memories and laughter. I was born the middle of nine children, on the six day of September in Cameron Highlands, Pahang. I grew up happy, in a loving, close-knit family. Time passes quickly, I will be 60 soon. I considered myself blunt, but very dependable.

Today, I am a mom with three wonderful children. My eldest son was married with two kids. 2nd daughter is also married with a baby of 10 months. Evelyn my youngest daughter doing her course at the MONASH University.

There maybe a big generation gap between children and parents, but I know that in one's heart of hearts, this gap is invisible. Well, I guess I would say to my children, nieces, nephews and friends whatever the distance may be................ Love your moms while you got them, make every day mother's day or mom's birthday. Days like today won't be as tough, because you know that you didn't wait for a calander to tell you to make mom feel special. A.G.R.E.E. ??

I have been cooking since our maid left. I persist on my mission which is "less oil, less sugar and less salt" in cooking. Last week I made some dumplings. I have chosen turnip/seng kuang and mushroom instead of pork. This can get rid of the oily taste. It is something different, you can try.

I used 300gm flour, 150gm potato flour instead of tapioca flour

warm water and some oil for the pastry

Packed and to be kept in the freezer

Spray a thin layer of oil in the frying-pan
cover and cook with 3/4 cup of water

It is Ramadhan month now. I specially prepared some jellies for our maid. I feel nothing is more soothing than to savour chilled desserts on a hot day, especially after fasting for a day. I do not use artificial colouring. General colours such as red can be replaced by ribena or dragon fruit, pandan or spinach juice to get a nice green, orange or carrot juice to replace the orange colouring. Pureed mangoes make a sunny yellow. I usually use 'Gula Melaka' or coffee for brown depending on the flavour required.

Baby Isabelle is nine months now. Her physical abilities are progressing in leaps and bounds. Sitting and standing is not exciting enough. Now she is keen to climb the stairs. I usually allow her to do it under my supervision, I think lots of physical exercise will improve her balance and co-ordination skills, as well as boots her confidence.

Every time I see aged women, it brings me lots of memoy and I will long for my mom. My parents passed away for many years. I always envy people who are able to take care of their age parents. I feel this is the best way to fulfil our filial obligation for the good life they have provided us.

This year Mother's Day falls on 9th. Being not able to celeberate this special day with my mom (in heaven). I guess I would say to my three wondwerful children, friends and relatives that the best gift for a mom is caring, loving and understanding. "Happy Mother's Day".

TaShee Blooming Oasis - This is the largest farm in north Taiwan. It is located next to "Chiang Kai-Shek" and "Chiang Ching-kuo" Culture Park. Due to the fertile soil and moderate climate, we could see a 17 hectares farm full of seasonal colourful flowers in the "Rainbow Flower Field". (which is similar to Hokkaido Furano)

The Wapan Salt Field - This is the oldest salt field in Taiwan with a history of 180 years. Sun-dried salt is the major industry here and is being continued generation after generation. Pictures below is the artificial salt mountain, overlooking to the salt field.

SUN MOON LAKE is the largest natural lake in Taiwan and also a tourist attraction. It is suitated in Yuchih, Nantou. The surrounding area is the home for the Thao Tribe. This Island surrounds a tiny island called Lalu. The East side of the lake looks like the sun and the west side looks like the moon (It was how the name came from).

TAI I Leisure Farm (at Tainan-Nantau). When we arrived in the afternoon, it was raining, not able to walkaround. I can see that this is an agricultural farm, showing a distinctive characteristic of tourism. Can you read these 3 Chinese character? I snapped it from Nanshan Cultural Park in Hainan Island. I think these words will serve as reference material and provide guidance for parents and children.
Currently, we live in a tumultuous world where the relationships among people; between people and their environment; parents and children; husbands and wives; employers and employees, are disintegrating. We are fearful for our futures and the futures of our children.

'Shan'

'Qing Ming' falls on 5th day of April yearly. This is an important festival for most chinese families, to visit and clean up the ancestors' graves and perform ancestral worship. This year I Specially prepared some 'Fatt Koh' and some 'Ang Ku' 0r we call it 'Red Tortoise' cake for this occation.

'Fatt Koh' is a Chinese Smiling Steam Cup Cake. Among Malaysian Chinese culinary, 'Fatt' could mean 'prosper' or 'expanding in volume' . To me the fun of making 'Fatt 'Koh' is to see them 'Smiling' !! which is rewarding.

'Ang Ku' coconut with gula Malacca fillings

'Ang ku' or 'Red Tortoise' cake is another traditional chinese cake made from glutinous rice flour. I have choosen the coconut and bean paste for fillings, it was cast out of the mold which looks like the shell of the tortoise. Traditionally 'Ang Ku' or 'Red Tortoise is coloured red to signify prosperity. To avoid artificial colouring I have choosen sweet pototoes for the dough.

Julian has been with us since Chinese New Year. He is no longer grumpy and a cry baby. He is now a chubby baby who likes to smile. Very "attentive" when I clap with his two hands to sing he will play his part to sing as loud as I do. He also likes playing with yeyah and will not sleep if yeyah is home early.

Isabelle is five(5) months now. Active baby, likes to draw attention from others. She has loud and sharp voice. She wants to be attended when she starts to cry, otherwise it takes a long time to comfort her.

Do you know where is Teluk Intan? It ia a small town in the distric of Perak, formerly known as Teluk Anson. Have you visited the Leaning Tower of Teluk Intan? Originally the clock tower was used as a water tower supplying water to the town area. It is now a Clock Tower for local tourist attraction.

Happy Times For Everyone on 12th Sep. '09 members of the "YONG" family had a 2 days gathering in Teluk Intan. My most caring sister/ angel mama was the host for the happy gathering.

None stop eating since morning. Everything were tasty. GUESS what we had after this........... Fresh coconut by the road side. Including "ta pau" we had not less than 20 coconuts. Everyone were happy including the Malay coconut seller.

We had Teluk Intan 'Chee Cheong Fun' for supper right after dinner. ( Never one to miss it)....... If you visit Teluk Intan you must try the soft noodle stuffed with seasoned pork and vegetable. It is very different from 'Chee Cheong Fun' we have in KL . The Teluk Intan 'Chee Cheong Fun' is served dry and with some green pickled chili.

Fresh Steam Fish-head for breakfast. You may not believe it ! Fresh sea food and vegetables for breakfast? You must be at the shop before 8.30am or you will not get a place to enjoy the food.

HEONG PEAH is another famous chinese traditional buscuits. Best thing to buy for friends as souvenirs.

This was my first trip to China with Tai ko, Tai soh and Tai jie. The main purpose was to visit a close relative in Mei-shien. We joined a 9 days tour to Guiyang, the capital of Guizhou province. A great number of attractive sights are found here. - The Hongfeng Lake (Red Maple Lake), Huangguoshu Waterfalls, Jia Xiu Tower, Tianxing Qiao, Shui Liandong, Miao Village and others.

I like food carving. It is a fine art. It requires patience and is time consuming. I received some very very nice pictures from a friend months ago. Is the watermelons and egg shells. Free Day in Haikou - after breakfast we walked to a road side
market nearby. Fresh fruits were sale at a reasonable price.
To shopping mall is only a walking distance from hotel. You'll
like it if you are a shopping queen.

Nanshan Cutural Tourist Zone. Displaying mainly buddist culture.
This cultural park is a large cultural attractions mainly with
GuanYin Buddha and Buddist temples.
Lotus flower can be seen everywhere. On wall paintings,
framed pictures and even towels in hotel rooms.

The schedule for day 2 was tight. We visited a tea shop and had
some famous chinese tea . Various types of tea leaves are selling
at " GOOD " price.

Super Beauty Show- Romantic Sanya
The show over at 10pm. It took us more then an hour
to reach the Nanshan Hotel. ( This hotel is in the Nanshan
Cultural Tourism Zone. A 108m high Goddness of Mercy
Guan Yin statue can be seen from hotel rooms).

DaDongHai - this is a very nice beach with soft white sand.

It reminds me of Phuket . Is an ideal place for outdoor swimming,
bathing and sunbathing. On shore there is a long queue of stores,
hawkers selling fruits and local food, which is quiet similar to
our Malaysian food.

downtown area of Sanya city. Miss World's Finals has been held
successfully in this city Sanya "The Hawaii of The East"
